The inspiration for UT Sangeth stems from a desire to blend the unexpected with the familiar. We explored the concept of “reverse contrast” to create visual intrigue, while ensuring the letterforms remained friendly and inviting. The rounded shapes and quirky details were inspired by a sense of childlike wonder and the desire to infuse a playful spirit into typography. The design process was deeply rooted in meticulous observation and conceptualization. For instance, the “framing concept on a flip flop” was a direct influence on the construction of the letterforms, particularly in how the curves and joints of characters like the lowercase ‘a’ were developed. This approach allowed us to translate the organic flow and structural integrity observed in everyday objects into the unique visual language of UT Sangeth. The visual exploration of elements like the “Arc of Stem,” “Shoulder,” “Aperture,” “Joint,” “Stem,” and “Curve” seen in the conceptualization of the letter ‘a’ demonstrates the detailed attention given to every aspect of the typeface’s anatomy.
